A sort of basic self-contained economy. Just to try out an idea. Not very well developed and doesn't do anything aesthetically interesting but does kinda work as a self contained system, until resources deplete anyway.

Each square harvests red, green or blue. They can either sell these primary colours in return for secondary colours (cyan, magenta and yellow) or buy another primary colour and make their own secondary colours. Prices are based on a simple supply/demand thing.

I want to do something a bit (well, far) more dynamic with this sort of idea. I like the idea of small starting discrepancies impacting to almost wholly define the shape of the system as it continues. I also like that it's evident just from looking at it that there are comprehensible rules behind what's happening - you can make guesses as to who sold what to whom, and whether they got a good price and all that shizit. I think I need to carry that through to the aesthetics, they're pretty meaningless here. Ah well, s'a start.

I was reading about epidemic modelling and thinking how it could be applied to things other than disease. Information/ideas/politics and things like that. If you take the various agents in an epidemic model (the virus, mutation, immunity, drugs, migration etc.) and swap them out for things like information, patents, mainstream media and stuff then, I dunno, you can watch it and tweak things.

I didn't get very far with it. Just a scrappy first-sketch. Very first version was this (click to infect). I made it 3d so you could move around it more easily (mouse buttons and cursors to move), here.

I got the population data from here, some free GIS software from here and after a bit of struggling, managed to produce maps like this:

Which I think is quite pretty.

I'm not sure there's much point to this idea but I might pick it up later and do something with it.

While having a piss, I thought it would be kinda funny if planets went 'beep' when they passed each other. Bigger planets going 'booop' and little ones going 'bip'. So I made a sketch, mouse buttons move around and that. It doesn't work very well and the sound goes crackly. Planets are generated randomly so sometimes it sounds more awful than others.

Then I thought, looking at the noise that's produced as a repeating pattern then that pattern is encoded in very little information ((radius, orbit radius, angular velocity) * num planets). I might think about that later if there's anything worth thinking about.
